The Emperor Teaches Typing: Behind the Screens

8-bit Emperor
The idea for this game came in a pretty unique way. I was updating the old TatsuSoft website, breaking my games into different categories, and making buttons for those categories. These buttons had characters on them from the games in that category: “Parodies” had Martinio and Stink, “Fan Games” had Bub and Rentahero, and “Originals” had… well, it just had a goat. This was before MFS or Allivator, so I didn’t have a second character to use for my button!
Troubled by this, I started to think about all the games I’ve made and which character I could quickly toss into a game for my “Originals” section. Aha! “The Emperor” has been in most of my games since “Hercules,” one of my first PC games (which, fortunately, was lost in a hard drive crash).
"Cartoon" Emperor.
For humor value I of course wanted the villain to be doing something very un-villain-like in his game, so I decided on a parody edutainment title. Considering The Emperor is a disembodied floating head, it was easy to settle on a typing game.
Two days later, the game was done. Some people tell me it’s my best work. Some out-of-state friends of mine loaded it up during a LAN party and had a blast. I guess it just goes to show how far a little bit of ridiculousness can go.
It’s a little hard to believe that I did the Emperor’s voice without any kind of sound alteration. This was before puberty, of course.
